It started this morning and winds down Sunday, the annual hot air balloon championship in Baton Rouge. Conveniently located at Pennington on Perkins Road, it's filled with activities to thrill all ages. Each morning you should plan to be seated at the field by 6:30am to see All the balloons take off as the competition starts for the day. They drop a bean bag marker onto a target. And each evening about half the balloons will set up on the field and take-off for the "the hare" and "the hounds" event.
This year one of the Special Events will be parachute demonstrations by the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. These "Screaming Eagles" will make an appearance in the late afternoon and again in the evening after dark on both Friday and Saturday. You don't want to miss them.
Then there will be other events such as the children's village that has inflatables, face painting
The day closes with "Balloon Glow" where you can go onto the field and watch up close as the balloons inflate. Then the festivities end with the grand finale, An Awesome Fireworks display both Friday and Saturday nights.
