By now many in the U. S. have seen many replays of the Game Winning Interception of the Saints against the Colts in the Superbowl. But it may not be as widely known that two of these players, Tracy Porter, and Randall Gay, grew up right here in Baton Rouge, Louisiana!
Tracy Porter grew up in Port Allen, Louisiana, (population approx. 5000)a part of the greater Baton Rouge area in West Baton Rouge Parish. West Baton Rouge Parish is just across the I-10 Bridge over the Mississippi River from East Baton Rouge Parish and the city of Baton Rouge. Tracy attended Port Allen High School and played football there.Porter was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 2008 NFL Draft and the rest is history now. Here's the video of that famous interception and touchdown if you want to watch it again!
Randall Gay also grew up in West Baton Rouge in the town of Brusly, Louisiana, (population approx. 2000) and attended Brusly High School. He majored in marketing at LSU. His professional career included a time with the New England Patriots. While he may not have that interception, his contribution as well as that of all the Sailts players was invaluable; it was that team spirit, all working as one, that soared them on to beat all the odds and become this year's Super Bowl champions.
