Quickly people in boats or swimming in the shallow water will move in on the flock and capture one or two to place in their yard for the upcoming parade.

And part of Spanish Town's parade's fame comes from its raunchy, irreverent, satirical themes.  Pink is its color and the flamingo is its mascot each year.  That's about all that is family friendly though.  An adult themed parade it pokes fun at public figures, politicians, sex, and just about anything you can make satirical.  These is a 2 block family friendly area with no alcohol but it isn't recommended for families.

Spanish Town is the oldest neighborhood of homes in Baton Rouge.  Commissioned in 1805 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.  You won't find a subdivision called Spanish Town.  It is a collection of several small subdivisions that span from the capitol to N.9th street.  It is an eclectic collection of both people and homes.  Home structures date from 1823 to 1975.  You will find artists, musicians, businessmen, attorneys, politicians, teachers, physicians, actors, and students.
